Position Summary:
sed in Edmonton, this is a 0.5 FTE renewable non-tenure track appointment under the Contract Academic Staff: Teaching Agreement with primarily administrative responsibilities for recruiting, developing, evaluating and supporting community pharmacy experiential sites. The successful individual will coordinate administrative functions related to recruitment, support and evaluation of all preceptors and sites. He/she will also participate in preceptor development activities and have service responsibilities within the Faculty. The successful candidate will be a member of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and work closely with the experiential education team.
Responsibilities and Activities:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Community Pharmacy Site Responsibilities • Recruit preceptors and develop practice sites in community pharmacy to meet pre-specified criteria and the capacity needs of the experiential program • Responsible for preceptor and practice site evaluation for community sites • Utilize and expand corporate relationships • Promote practice initiatives involving students • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to community preceptors and sites through in-person meetings, telecommunications, and site visits. Travel within the area of responsibility as required • Contribute to the preceptor training program Coordination Responsibilities • Coordinate a team that recruits, supports and evaluates all preceptors and sites • Oversee preceptor and site visit expectations and goals • Maintain and improve evaluation strategy for all preceptors and practice sites • Oversee the administration of evaluations of the Experiential Education courses by preceptors
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a degree in pharmacy from a recognized school of pharmacy and have knowledge of current clinical pharmacy practice. Preference will be given to candidates with a PharmD degree and/or residency experience. Applicants with other qualifications such as education training, teaching experience or prior work with experiential education will also be considered. Applicants must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, by the Alberta College of Pharmacists. The successful candidate must also possess: proven leadership abilities, an understanding of basic concepts of adult learning, strong verbal and written communication skills, and project management skills in order to work within a team environment.
About the Faculty
The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers one of the strongest pharmacy degree programs in Canada. The Faculty annually admits 130 student pharmacists, and currently has 60 graduate students. The PharmD program will admit 13 students in the first year, increasing to 30 in subsequent years.
